Saddleback Scouts , have you provided service this year!

Posted on Oct 8 2020 - 1:35pm

Greetings Saddleback Scouts!

Anasazi, your Order of the Arrow Chapter needs your help.

This years service hours are considerably down compared to previous years.

If your troop performed any service projects, including Eagle Projects, any hours performed by any OA Arrowmen on those projects can help us out.

Any adults performing service beyond their primary scouting position those hours count.

If you are an Assistant Scout Master, but worked with scouts on a Merit Badge, those hours count.

If you helped out with district and sat on an Eagle Board, those hours count.

Meetings beyond those for your primary role count as well.

Donating blood counts. Many of us provide service all the time and don’t think about it, By recording those hours it will help out the youth of our Chapter.

If you only have a few things to report, that’s great. We have an easy way for you to get that in. Here is a google form for you to fill out and it will get put in by us. You can use it as many times as you need.

If you have a bunch of information you can put it in a spreadsheet and send it to Carter Bohn and will get it entered.

The information that is need :

  • Name of person performing the service
  • Service Project or Event or Meeting type
  • Date of service
  • Number of Hours of Service, in 15 minute increments (No more than 16 hours in a day can be reported on a single day)

These hours count for anyone that is in the Order of the Arrow, even if they are not current on their dues.

If you have any questions please feel free to ask.

Thank you in advance for your help and your service.

Carter Bohn

Scouter Gone Home

Scouter Gone Home
Don Cock

To my scouting Friends:
I am sad to announce the unexpected passing of my old friend and fellow Scouter, Don Cock.
Don was stricken at home with a sudden heart attack and died on October 26, 2020.
Don knew the Lord and is now home with his Savior, Jesus Christ.

Don was a wonderful Scout leader who served Pack 633, Troop 636, Saddleback District, and Anasazi Chapter of the Order of the Arrow (OA) from early 1990s through the 2000s.
His many jobs included:
• Committee Chairman, Assistant Scoutmaster, and Listserv Administrator for Troop 636
• OA Associate Advisor
• OA Anasazi Chapter Advisor 2000-2002
• Saddleback District Training Staff
• Reviewer & Coordinator for Eagle Application Reviews for several years
• Chaired or sat on countless Eagle Scout Boards of Review
Don is part of a 3-generation Scouting Legacy. Don’s father was a Scout leader and Silver Beaver Recipient. As a youth, Don rose to Life rank as a Scout and was a Sea Scout in Orange Empire Council (Prior to it merging with North Orange Council to form Orange County Council). Don’s son, Paul is an Eagle Scout and OA Vigil Honor Member.
I first camped with Don when we were Webelos Leaders, 25 years ago, at the Orange County Council 75th Anniversary Encampment in November 1995 at Camp Pendleton. Later, in Troop 636, Don and I shared Scoutmaster/ASM duties for 3 weeklong summer Camps at Cherry Valley on Catalina Island. I remember Don’s appropriate answer to the young Scouts asking him for . . . : “Did you ask your Senior Patrol Leader?”
Don believed in a youth run organization. He coached many young men in the Troop and in the OA.
Don earned the District Award of Merit, the Vigil Honor (I was proud to be his Vigil Sponsor), and the Silver Beaver. Don’s Vigil name is Tuney Gihim, which translates as “Bearded one who encourages.”
Our sons, Paul and Jake were friends and OA Brothers who climbed the Eagle trail together.
Don’s professional title was Senior Director of Technical Support/Operations for Orange Coast College . . . but all his free time was devoted to Scouting with generous support from his wife of 43 years, Linda.
After “retiring” from Scouting, Don joined the cast at Disneyland as a part-time Ride Operator. You may have seen him checking your seat belt at the Matterhorn ride.
Memorial Services for Don are pending due to the Corona Virus restrictions.
In Lieu of flowers, Don’s wife, Linda asks that donations in Don’s name be made to the Orange County Council, Boy Scouts of America        Donations
